Disaster READY Solomon Islands Phase One Completion Report
The Solomon Islands Government’s National Development Strategy states that a key national goal is ensuring the country is able to respond effectively to climate change and the increasing frequency of storm surges and floods. From 2017 to 2022, AHP Disaster READY in Solomon Islands undertook disaster preparedness programming which focused on providing support to communities, government authorities, civil society organisations and church partners with an emphasis on inclusion and collaboration.
Levering Disaster READY’s coordination function led to a new level of collaboration and partnership and the Disaster READY Solomon Islands country committee has served as a platform that enabled partners to learn from each other and improve program delivery. Collaborative efforts included collective responses to Tropical Cyclone Harold and COVID-19, demonstrating the importance of the partnering approach and the impact of preparedness work for broader community resilience.
