Disaster READY Timor-Leste Phase One Completion Report
From 2017 to 2022, AHP Disaster READY in Timor-Leste directly reached 50, 555 people with tools and training to increase preparedness and resilience against disaster and climate change. Targeted communities across Timor-Leste are now better able to identify natural hazards and risks and have put into place contextually appropriate and inclusive disaster preparedness plans that consider the impacts of climate change. Throughout the first phase of Disaster READY, AHP partners worked together with the Government of Timor-Leste and the program is now viewed as a key implementing mechanism to support government disaster management policy.
Implementation of Phase One involved partnership between Australian NGOs and local organisations. These organisations were provided organisational and institutional support as well as technical capacity. As a result, local partners are now better placed to lead future response work and find independent sources of funding.
