Disaster READY Community-based Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation Review and Learning Initiative

This review seeks to understand how the Australian Government’s Disaster READY initiative under the Australian Humanitarian Partnership, has strengthened community‑level plans and capabilities in Fiji, PNG, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, and Vanuatu. Following key informant interviews, focus group discussions and community workshops, the report finds that Disaster READY’s community-based disaster risk management and climate change adaptation activities have improved community resilience by introducing inclusive, locally tailored preparedness and adaptation measures. The program’s efforts have shifted communities from reactive to proactive disaster preparedness, but sustaining these gains will require ongoing support, resources, and deeper inclusion.
